No reason to celebrate

The government officials were extremely happy over the fifth delivery of the president’s address to the parliament.

They consider it as a big success. Soon they will rejoice their 5-year tenure and the fifth budget in June /July. I am sure that this junta has reasons to rejoice. But do they know what have they done in 5 long years? The country has been brought down to knees in virtually every aspect of affair.

I cannot find a single thing to compliment this government. I cannot even make a list of things that have gone wrong. In the parliamentary form of government, all I know is that the length of the tenure is meaningless. Elections can be called on earlier. Yes, the maximum stipulated time is fixed at 5 years.

In United Kingdom and in Japan, elections are called every 2 to 4 years. If the outgoing government is good, it can always be re-elected. It happened with Tony Blair just recently in history. What is it about the 5th address that we should rejoice? The country is on a veritable downward slide and we are giving congratulations to the president on this ‘great achievement’.

Let these few benefactors and allies bring their minds back for a change. Filthy street language is being used by these politicians against each other. Election is still some months away and they have resorted to these dirty and filthy tactics.

What will we poor citizens do to plug the ears of our kids? I do not understand where are we heading for? Pakistan has been hijacked by these few hundreds of monopolists. It is time the voters exercise their rights and bring decent and honest Pakistanis into office.
