The Supreme Court of Pakistan, while declaring the “illegal” appointments to the Port Qasim Authority as a serious matter of public interest, issued notices to the attorney genera, the establishment secretary, the Sindh chief secretary and the Counsel for the PQA Anwar Mansoor Khan to file comments on the issue on March 13.
The three-member bench of the apex court comprised Justice Shakir Allah Jan, Justice Nasurul Mulk and Justice Aijaz Afzal Khan. The matter of the “illegal” appointments unearthed when a sacked officer of the authority, Abdul Jabbar Memon, approached the apex court against his retrenchment. In his petition filed in person, he also raised other irregularities of the management. The apex court, apart from his petition, also took Suo Moto notice of the issue and directed the federal government to file the comments in this regard.
