No one can deny the fact that the food is a basic need of life. Food insecurity is defined as a limited and uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods and limited or uncertain ability to acquire foods in socially acceptable ways.
Food insecurity has become one of the major national problems in Pakistan. According to national nutritional survey (NNS) in 2011 almost 58 percent of Pakistanis face food insecurity.
Food insecurity is getting worse day by day. Many people are suffering from acute malnutrition. Every year more than 70 million people get sick from food poisoning which occurs after consuming contaminated food. Food insecurity remains top priority in UN’s flash appeal for Pakistan.
Many countries have improved their condition but the situation in Pakistan keeps worsening. The government needs to understand that the lack of food safety is a result of unhygienic and unhealthy food products.
The government should issue licenses to the food industry on strict compliance with basic health rules. There should be random inspection on periodic basis, and those producing low quality and unhealthy food should be given strict punishment and their licenses cancelled.

well this is indeed one of the burning questions in third world countries specially in Pakistan where no one pays heed to the growing food insecurity issues. The unhygienic food is a mammoth hazard for health. The issues pertaining food insecurity ought to be resolved and the authorities involve in selling the low quality and unhealthy food should be dealt with strict ways of punishment.
The matter is how should,we handle and monitor food safety issues by awareness among producer and processor It by adopting HACCP and laboratory accreditation and hygiene consciousness all stakeholder involved in the food chain with out any discrimination for national and imported food.
I think Pakistan, should develop a good central lab in Islamabad in phase 1. In this lab food sample of all types and from everywhere in Paksitan should be analysed or lab can specify areas from where they will get food sample initally. This will create a data base, planning can be based on this which food or region or city need more attention regarding food education and food safety. The resources can be allocated accordingly.
All the comment given by my friends above can only be implemented and bring result once corruption is wiped out. Every person using his authority is looking to make monetory benefits and does not care for the nation. The implementing officer has all the responsibilities of ensuring that he is fulfilling his duties and is answerable to his self conscious and the God Almighty. As far allocation of resources is concerned again the serpent of corruption will come in the way. FIRST WIPE OUT THE CORRUPTION EVERYTHING WILL IMPROVE.
