President Asif Ali Zardari on the advice of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has summoned the National Assembly session on March 12 at 5pm while he will also address his fifth and the record joint session on the 17th. The NA is expected to debate important issues including recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security about NATO supply line as well as situation in Balochistan and price hike. The day also marks the beginning of the new Parliamentary Year. New Senators of the upper house of parliament are also likely to take oath on March 12. None of the presidents in the country’s history have addressed the joint sessions these many times.
