The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed police authorities on Tuesday to produce Rinkle Kumari, the Hindu girl who was allegedly abducted and forcefully converted to Islam, before the court on March 12. A division bench headed by the SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam issued the directives to the Sindh Inspector General, Ghotki district police officer and Mirpur Mathelo superintendent on a constitutional petition filed by the maternal uncle of the Kumari, Raj Kumar. The petitioner, through his lawyer Noor Naz Aga, submitted that on February 25, Naveed Shah with his armed aides kidnapped Kumari with the help of Pakistan People’s Party MNA Mian Abdul Haq Alias Mian Mitho, forcibly converted her to Islam and married her.
He claimed that the judicial magistrates of Ghotki and Mirpur Mathelo recorded the statement of the girl under Section 164 of the CrPc, but did not allowed the father, the mother or any other relative of the girl to meet her under pressure from the MNA.
The petitioner prayed the court that it should direct the police to produce Kumari. She should be taken to the Darul Amaan and then her statement recorded.
