Horse trading

The existing government, being very notorious in the masses for its fowl playing, once again reasserts its scandalous nature in these Senate elections. The government has issued bribery in the name of development funds to parliamentarians to buy votes for the desired candidates.

In one of the local newspapers it has been said that the PPP government has given 65 corers to an MPA in Balochistan, under the title of development funds, to influence him to vote for the PPP’s candidate. Another evidence for the horse trading is that the media groups were not granted passes to give coverage to the elections.

Is this democracy? Is this the transparency which is acclaimed by the authorities every now and then? The seeds of corruption sown today in elections will keep hampering democracy for the next six years .Who will be responsible for these acts?

We need to be on our toes from now onwards to elect those people for the provincial and federal assemblies who instead of channelling with their personal alliances and gains should go for the real. This is the way in which the democratic process can be made transparent, fair and worth having.
