Vegetable prices decreased this week at Sunday Bazaars after increasing for two consecutive weeks while chicken prices remained high.
Out of 27 registered vegetables with the market committee, prices of 13 decreased, five increased and nine remained constant. Prices of onion, ginger, garlic and spinach decreased while prices of tomatoes, potatoes and cucumber remained stable. Price of ginger decreased by Rs 5 per kilogrammes and it was sold for Rs 70. Price of onion decreased by Rs 2 per kilogrammes and it was available for Rs 28. Price of garlic reduced by Rs 10 and it was sold for Rs 80 per kilogrammes. Prices of tomatoes and potatoes remained stable, as the commodities were available for Rs 35 and Rs 12 per kilogrammes respectively. Chicken prices also remained high and it was sold for Rs 230 per kilogrammes. Because of high chicken prices, customers were more inclined towards mutton and beef, chicken seller Mehboob Ahmed said, adding that sales dropped sharply because of high chicken prices. City District Government Lahore (CDGL) teams visited Johar Town, Wahdat Colony and Allama Iqbal Town bazaars and cancelled licenses of two stalls for overcharging and also imposed Rs 6,200 fine on shopkeepers for selling substandard vegetables and fruits.
