Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad handed over the charter of the Sindh Madressah University and a letter of appointment to its first vice chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh at a ceremony held at the Governor’s House on Wednesday.
“I am happy and feeling proud that I am giving the charter of university to the alma mater of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah at his house (Governor’s House),” he said while speaking at the ceremony for the occasion.
He said that this is a historic day and for him personally and for whole nation that the Sindh Madressatul Islam (SMI) has been elevated to the university level.
He said after taking the charge of governorship, he had decided that he will promote three historic institutions to the university level: the Dow Medical College, which was his alma mater, the SM Law College and the SMI.
“In 2003, the Dow Medical College got the university status, today the SMI is receiving the charter of university and it has been decided in principle that the SM Law College will be given the same status soon,” he added.
