With almost 80 percent of the sacked KESC workers availing the company’s voluntary separation scheme (VSS) package, the remaining employees were finally shown the door on Saturday.
Issuing the termination notices, the power utility, however, did not shut the door completely on its “non-core” personnel terminated and suggested them to avail the welfare package against their lost jobs, sources in the KESC told Pakistan Today.
It is worth mentioning that despite tall claims by the Sindh government and prolonged protests by the sacked KESC workers for over one year, the KESC management finally succeeded in ousting its employees, who had been resisting the move since 2010.
On December 31, 2010, the KESC had announced the VSS for “non-management and non-technical” staff. The scheme offered a minimum guaranteed payout of Rs700,000 to each employee, including drivers, office attendants, security guards and janitors.
