The Jamat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Muslim League- N (PML-N) political leadership on Thursday joined the sit-in-protest of the relatives of missing people. The protest was initiated by Defence of Human Rights (DHR) Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua on Wednesday at the Parade Avenue (D-Chowk). The JI and PML-N members unanimously decided to convene the ‘All Parties Conference’ on February 28 in Islamabad to pressurise the government to resolve the missing persons’ issue.
JI former ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed, JI leader Mian Aslam and PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique joined the protest. Addressing to the gathering, Hussain Ahmed said: “The country is on the verge of disintegration and the PPP-led government is engaged in a proxy war. The government is oblivious of the core domestic issues due to deviation from Islamic ideology.” The JI leader said Islamists are being victimised in accordance with American policies that are backed by the government. “The US forces’ attack on the Pakistan Army has proved that they are not our friends but foes,” he said.
He added: “How can Pakistan be spared the Kalashinove culture when the Balochi people have been deprived of their basic rights and innocent civilians are being kidnapped and brutally killed.” He stated that unity and adherence to the law were the only ways to cope with the situation.
Qazi Ahmed also criticised the role of the parliament and its members. “Why did the parliamentarians not pass a resolution against the US drone attacks and why is the Pakistani army being used against its own people,” he questioned.
Mian Aslam and Saad Rafique also spoke on the occasion.
Carrying banners and placards, the protesters marched on the Jinnah Avenue and shouted slogans against the security agencies and forces for “kidnapping and killing innocent people”.
