The Commerce and Trade Service (C&T) group of officials have filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court against the ministry of commerce. The petition contends that the ministry ignored their appointment as commercial officers in violation of the government’s policy under which 50 percent of vacancies of commercial officers were to be filled by the officers of the C&T group. Citing Ministry of Commerce Secretary, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Vice Chancellor and others as respondents, the petitioners submitted that the commerce ministry maintains the posts of commercial officers in Pakistani missions across the globe. In this regard, the ministry had recently announced vacancies and asked candidates to submit their applications. The C&T officers said according to the government’s policy they should have been awarded 50 percent of the vacancies while the rest were to be filled by civil services officers.
