Representatives of various organisations of traders, transporters, NGOs and lawyers on Wednesday held a protest against ever-increasing inflation, including fuel price hike, and demanded the government to reverse prices of all essential commodities to the 2007 level. They also launched a mobile protest campaign to motivate the masses against the government for increasing prices of daily use commodities and indulging in corruption. The campaign was led by Khalid Ayub and others. Passing through various markets in the city and delivering speeches, the protesters said that the government was least bothered to address the problems being faced by the people and if the government forgot the miseries of the people then the masses will come out on roads. They said that extra tax on petroleum products should be withdrawn and the government should provide relief to the poor. “A labourer earns maximum Rs 250 on daily wages and his expenditures are minimum Rs 500 per day so how he will manage to make both ends meet,” the protesters said.
