Powerlessness

My term finals are approaching, and I really have loads of workload. Projects, presentations, vivas and God knows what. Apparently, we students, as the masons of the future, need to work really hard and even if we are determined to do so, we have one friend that makes sure that we do not stress up and rest at regular intervals.

For me and those of us who still work on a PC and need electricity for doing their projects, whenever they plan their work they have to do so keeping in mind loadshedding schedule.

We are not workaholics anymore, we take proper time out to sleep, to eat, to talk to our friends and etc. And whenever we are working, our efficiency gets multiplied by a hundred. I swear never ever in my life have I been more eager to work and still manage other tasks of life simultaneously.

Irony apart, this is one hell of a full-time crisis situation going on. Have you ever seen this much loadshedding in winters ever before when there are no fans, no ACs and the power usage is approximately 60 percent as compared to summers? Then why all this? I mean why are we going back into the stone ages? How is the industry going to survive like this and how long? How long will our UPS work? How many people can afford generators? What will be the scenario this summer?

It seems like we will have electricity for two hours with the “elaan”: “Ladies and gentlemen! So we are having electricity now, kindly wind up all your tasks that cannot be accomplished otherwise.” Candle-light dinners, use of steam, writing your work in hand, no industry with heavy power requirements: Is this what we dream of making our beloved country?

We are continuously being pushed into the Stone Age, slowly but surely. I appeal to those in power to please have pity on us and kindly let us feel being a part of the 21st century. Do not slash the throats of progress and lighten up our life again.
