The Sindh-Balochistan border remained blocked throughout the day as enraged people protested the brutal murder of the wife and teenage daughter of slain Baloch leader Akbar Bugti’s grandson in Karachi, resulting in a traffic mess in Jacobabad and Shikarpur districts.
In the wee hours of Tuesday, Balochistan MPA Mir Bakhtiar Khan Domki’s wife, Zommar, and 13-year-old daughter Jannan along with their driver were gunned down by unidentified assailants in the Gizri area. The deceased were also the sister and niece of Baloch Republican Party (BRP) leader Brahmdagh Bugti.
As the news of the murder spread, hundreds of protesters arrived at the Sindh-Balochistan border and blocked the road. Senior police officials were of the view that the incident was a targeted killing.
Sources in the police department told Pakistan Today that four armed men in a white Suzuki Alto intercepted the family and sprayed their vehicle with bullets. Zommar suffered at least 25 bullets while her daughter and the driver sustained over a dozen bullets, resulting in their death on the spot, they added.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Bakhtiarabad – the hometown of Domki – in ambulances via the Hub-Quetta route. Talking with Pakistan Today, Mir Saifullah Domki alleged that the police authorities are misguiding the public by terming it a targeted killing incident, as the murder is a move to create law and order situation in Sibi and other adjoining areas in Balochistan.
“We have no enmity with anyone for which the women can be targeted. This is a cowardly act by anti-social elements to disturb the law and order situation in peaceful areas of Sibi and Bakhtiarabad,” he said. “The Sindh-Balochistan border has been blocked and Mir Sahib [MPA Domki] is himself also at the border with the protesters to register a protest against the poor law and order situation in the country.”
Meanwhile, business activities at Dera Murad Jamali, Nautal, Dera Allahyar, Bakhtiarabad, Chalgary, Sibi and Dhadhar remained suspended in protest against the murder.
