After the publication of many reports regarding the corruption and incompetence the National Aliens Registration Authority (NARA) and the illegal appointments based on nepotism there, its management has prohibited the journalists’ entry at its head office. A notice has been pasted at its main gate and walls telling journalists to seek permission from the interior ministry before entering the head office or any sub-office of the authority. The management also issued show-cause notices to the six of its employees, who it believes shared information with the media. The authority, which was formed in 2002 to register illegal immigrants, has remained futile for nine years despite the fact that thousands of illegal immigrants are living in the country.
