The University of Health Sciences (UHS) is organising an international seminar on Human Disaster Management on Thursday (January 26). The seminar is being held in collaboration with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). Prof Timothy O’Dempsy, the director of Studies for Humanitarian Assistance Programmes at LSTM, will be the guest speaker of the seminar. The theme of the seminar is “Role of Academia and Media in Human Disaster Management”. On the occasion, a formal agreement of cooperation would be signed between UHS and LSTM to devise joint strategies for promoting awareness, providing cheap and affordable preventive solutions and encouraging indigenous research on tropical diseases such as tuberculosis, typhoid, hepatitis, dengue, malaria and other vector-borne diseases. The seminar will be attended by the representatives of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Global Change Impact Studies Centre Islamabad, Punjab Emergency Services (Rescue 1122), NGOs and representatives of print and electronic media.
