The National College of Arts (NCA) students displayed their theses on Thursday, when many art lovers gathered to appreciate the work of the fresh graduates and encourage them as they join the mainstream.
It was a festive sight at the NCA as the entire college was ornamented by the thesis projects of young artists. People from different walks of life visited the college and admired the skill and ideas of the young artists. Final works of Architecture, Fine Arts, Textile, Product design, Musicology, Film and TV, Communication Design and Ceramics were exhibited at the occasion. Salah-ud-Din Faizan, a visitor to the thesis exhibition, applauded the work of textile graduates, saying that the industry needed new designs and concepts for development. “The work shows fresh minds and fresh minds are just the thing we need,” he said. The NCA faculty members were pleased with the students’ work as well. They said that the students had worked really hard and some of the work displayed at the exhibition was of the international standards. They said that the NCA had been known for grooming quality students always and the works at display showed that. Explaining her thesis, Anuksha Rustomji, a student of fine arts, said that she was inspired by the use of ‘gaze’ as a tool in power relationships. Her works highlighted different aspects of gazing and their effects on relationships. Anique Azhar, a distinction holder in architecture, said that his work was based on visualising space in reference to architecture. “My teachers have always commended my skills in visualising space and that’s what I did,” he said. Another student Hira Athar, who has graduated as a jewellery product designer, said she was excited about the opportunities that were in store for her.
