This is with regards to the news story, “Japan keen on financing Thar coalfield transmission line” published yesterday. The government needs to expedite work on the Thar coalfield project as it has the potential to change the country’s destiny. By ensuring that the coal reserves of the country are utilised to generate energy, a problem that is central to the dilemma’s being faced by Pakistan, we will be ensuring a bright future for our coming generations. Secondly, the government should also ensure that work on the gas pipeline projects are expedited as well, since gas shortage has a potential to severely undermine the political ambitions of the establishment and undermine the status quo.
