Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi said on Wednesday that the AIOU regional campuses at Umer Kot, Dasu, Rahim Yar Khan, Loralaye and Gilgit Baltistan would start functioning soon.
He was addressing a meeting arranged by the representatives of the Officers’ Welfare Association (OWA). Dr Sangi said that 0.6 million students enrolled in AIOU in each semester from across the country, reflecting people’s trust in the institution.
He said that the AIOU was the backbone of the education sector, educating students for the socio-economic uplift and progress of the country through job-oriented curriculum. He added that he had made every effort for the welfare of all academicians, officers and employees of the university, without any discrimination.
He said that the university’s regional campuses at Umerkot, Dasu, Rahim Yar Khan, Loralaye and some remote areas of Azad Kashmir and in Gilgit Baltistan would start functioning soon. Computer labs, comprising of 10-20 computers and at least one video-conferencing system would be provided to each regional campus, he added.
The AIOU VC said that internet facility would be provided to the university’s residential colony and the Day Care Centre would also be improved. Dr Sangi said that an Officers’ Club would be established and the employees would be granted interest-free loans from the welfare fund.
On the occasion, newly-elected OWA President Mukhtiar Hussain Talpur thanked the voters for their trust in the OWA and requested all officers to work hard for the progress of the university.
