Motorists faced great hardships on Monday due to petrol shortage. Long queues of cars and bikes were seen at city petrol stations which were short of fuel. Skirmishes and exchange of hot words also took place at filling stations where motorists blamed petrol stations’ staff for making illegal profit in what they believed was an artificial shortage of fuel. Staff at Saffanwala Chowk, Ichhra, Sabzazaar Scheme, Shahdara, Ravi Road, Garhi Shahu, Dharampura and Baghbanpura petrol stations sold petrol at exorbitant prices. A 1.5 litre petrol bottle was priced at Rs 160 to Rs 190.
People were seen pushing their vehicles, which had ran out of fuel on the road. Petrol dearth also adversely affected routine life where people were not able to reach their offices on time and the students were left stranded on the road in the absence of public transport.
