Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday set aside the detention of Chairman Muhajir Qaumi Movement Afaq Ahmad and issued orders for his immediate release.
A 2-member bench of SHC presided over by Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani issued these orders during the course of hearing of the contempt of court case.
Giving arguments during the hearing of the case, Afaq Ahmad said police officers had said in their affidavits in the court that there was no case registered against him except the 13 cases.
“I was detained under MPO after I was released in all the cases. Additional Chief Secretary had come to jail in connection with the compliance of court’s orders but my appeal was not discussed. Several offers of release were made to me which were not acceptable to me”, he said.
The court nullified his detention and ordered for his immediate release.
