Tightening the noose around the mastermind of the treacherous memo, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt General Ahmad Shuja Pasha on Thursday unanimously told the Supreme Court that the memo was a conspiracy against the army and national security and the evidence corroborated this.
General Kayani submitted his reply to the Supreme Court in the memo case, stating that it (the memo) was “a reality” and a conspiracy had been hatched against the army and national security. The COAS said the Financial Times published Mansoor Ijaz’s article about the memo on October 10. He said he was informed about ISI chief Lt Gen Pasha’s meeting with Mansoor Ijaz on October 24 and Pasha was of the opinion that there was enough evidence to validate the authenticity of the memo.
He said the ISI chief told him that there was evidence that illustrated that Ijaz was in touch with Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani between May 9 to 11 and they exchanged text messages and phone calls. He said the spokespersons for the Foreign Ministry and the Presidency denied the memo in separate statements on October 28. He said Admiral Mike Mullen, through his spokesperson, first denied receiving the memo on November 8 but a few days later he changed his stance.
Kayani stated in his reply that during a meeting with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on November 13, he had advised that those points of the memo which were leaked were very sensitive and that a decision had to be made. According to Kayani’s reply, he insisted the prime minister summon Haqqani so he could brief the country’s leadership on the matter. “I told the prime minister that time was limited and the sooner we found out the facts the better it would be,” Kayani said in his reply. He said on November 15, he was called by the president for a meeting. He said the prime minister had already informed the president about his (Kayani’s) recommendations on the memo issue. He said President Asif Ali Zardari informed him that the decision to summon Haqqani had already been made. He said US General James Jones confirmed on November 21 that he had taken the memo to Mullen. He said he was part of a meeting that also included the prime minister, the president and the ISI chief on November 22.
“It was during this meeting that Haqqani briefed all of us and Prime Minister Gilani asked for his (Haqqani’s) resignation and ordered an investigation,” Kayani said in his reply. At the end of the reply, Kayani wrote that there was enough evidence validating the memo and there should be a full review to evaluate the circumstances and the facts behind it. He said the memo tried to decrease the morale of Pakistan Army but was unsuccessful in doing so.
LT GEN PASHA: In his four-page reply on the memo controversy, ISI chief Lt Gen Pasha stated that he was satisfied with the evidence provided by Mansoor Ijaz. He said Ijaz could not have written the article in the Financial Times without having evidence about the memo. He said the article was part of a never-ending propaganda against the ISI.
He requested the court to summon Ijaz and direct him to produce proof of the matter. He said without proof, no one could make such huge allegations in their article. He requested the court to summon the Blackberry data and Husain Haqqani’s computer and order its forensic examination. He said he would fully cooperate with the commission to be constituted by the court on the memo issue. Pasha said he had met with Ijaz on October 22 in London to learn the facts and he came to know about Ijaz’s article through the media wing of the ISI. He said the ISI was on the forefront in the security of the state.
He stated that he had told the president in his meeting with him that the memo issue should be taken seriously.
In response to the Supreme Court’s December 1 order in the memo case, except President Zardari, all the respondents submitted their replies on Thursday through Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq. Besides the army chief and ISI chief, the interior and foreign affaris secretaries also submitted their replies on Thursday through the attorney general. Haqqani and Ijaz had submitted their replies on Wednesday. The replies of the cabinet secretary, defence secretary and law secretary are yet to be filed. According to a Supreme Court handout, as already directed by the chief justice, copies of the replies filed in the Supreme had been forwarded to all the petitioners and respondents in the petitions, with the direction that if they desired to file replies on these replies, they may do so before the date of hearing, which was December 19.

  1. Wat about pasha visited in may Saudia & Arab world to remove PPP govt. as Mr. Mansor Ijaz said yesterday to British news paper..MAnsoor Ijaz got any credibility except to create differences b/w civilian Govt. & Military establishment . Did any one realise who is going to Loose it’s Pakistan ?

  2. Listen M. Ahsan Ullah, someone has planned to murder you and give your most most important possession, YOUR NUCLEAR ASSERTS to your enemy, still then you want them not to react on that, that’s very shameful indeed from your side then. If you have loved your country and know what treachery is that MEMO Scandal, you should have never said so, I am very disappointed to know many people still do not know the reality.

  3. Reply to Rashid Sb & Amjad…..memo & May 2 are 2 different episodes….which proves that as usual we are a very emotional nation….if we hv people like you we do not need enemy….

  4. The memo can actually be traced to Zardari who should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution for treason. I think this would be better for the PPPP as well because it badly needs another martyr to get some seats in the next elections.

  5. so Kyani coming with a bang………………was this the reason of zaradri’s famous ailment…………zardari for sure is nt coming back cz this much rage of army he wont be able to handle and army wont let him use power anymore……….its a kind of a hotch potch now

  6. I do not understand why are people still defending PPP, Didn’t you see what treachery Zardari did and after there four years of looting process, you still want them… crazy isn’t it.

  7. The facts:
Pakistan army has usurped power many times. Gen. Kayani is holding a gun to the civilian government again as the whole world witnesses. On May 2, it was the military that was found delinquent. Hosting bin Laden and failure to react to US incursion are enough facts to persecute Gen. Kayani and Gen. Pasha.

  8. After the latest statement of Mansoor Ijaz, it is time for Kayani & Pasha to resign immediately. All plots and lands given by the nation to them should be retrieved. Keeping in mind the grave situation on our borders and our tension with USA, it is absolutely necessary that these Generals on extensions, must make way for Generals who have no record of conspiring to topple a democratically elected government.

  9. Interesting comments from everyone.
Well , let me give you my version of thoughts. First, Why Mr. Zardari left Pakistan after visiting an ARMY HOSPITAL in RawalPindi where COAS was already there at that time ( Many doctors are witnesses there, so no need to prove that ), So Zardari left because he knew he was caught and guilty. Memo Story is a real story on the instruction of Zardari AND Haqqani was used and promised to be safe till end.
If we go back few years ago, This COAS was the one who always favoured govt policies, and supported civilian government. He continued the process of getting Retd. Military people from federal and provincial major departments who were hired in era of Musharaf, because civilian has rights on those seats. After Musharaf, People started to believe in ARMY because of COAS and his policies.
Current Situation is that Majority of Pakistanis don't believe in this government and offcourse our "Beloved President" Zardari Sahib.

  10. And why ISI chief went to Saudia , offcourse to get rid of Zardari Govt. Please do it … We dont want such government … never wanted it. You know .. there are many people who think that Musharaf time was a lot better than this ,,, cause you dont have to fight for your basic needs.!!
I admire the steps of COAS and DG ISI, atleast there are people who wants to proetect our Land.!!!!

    peace
    A Pakistani.

  11. Things are as simple as this:
    1. Haqqani cannot promise on his own even one of the many things in the memo.
    2. Who is the 'boss' in the memo? Obviously no other than Zardari. Haqqani never took PM seriously. The PM is irrelevant even otherwise. He is nothing more than a section officer.
    3. Why Zardari (and party) are not feeling comfortable with the investigations.
    4. The so called sickness of Zardari is not the first time he is using this trick. How the cases against him remain 'unproved' till this day.
    4. if nothing has been proved against him despite 11 years' of trials, he should have atleast been exonerated.

  12. This is a shameless Army. They will go to any length to protect their illegally acquired commercial and political interests.

    They surrenderd in 1971

They ran away from Kargil and left the bodies of their fallen comrades behind.

They could not stop ten terrorists from attacking their own GHQ.

They could not stop 2 helicopters from flying into Pakistani airspace and killing OBL under their noses.

They have committed treason against the country and the constitution many times, the last time on 3 November 2007.

And then they have the face to talk about "national interest".

    • And what's your contribution to pakistan and what you have done for your country that you can be proud of? Before throwing shame on others, look before you speak. You are no less than any other corrupt pakistani including the leadership who have brought pakistan to such a shameless state. You all 'doob maro in chullo bher paani mein'. Tum sub loog baygharat hu gye hu, and hence Allah ka hazab….

      • If targetting a corrupt, loser and shameless Army is "beghairat", then I am proud to be a "beghairat".__As far as your personal attacks against me are concerned, I consider them childish and will not respond.

    • Are you GOD!!!

You seem to be like an Indian pretending to be Pakistani.

Please read what the memo-gate is and you will know the truth.

  13. @ M Umer Farooq! Good Reply. Now my Turn.

1971 issue! … They surrendered in 1971 becuase of the the political reasons, political instability were the reasons, Sweet politicians were ignoring the facts that there are people living in Bangladesh as well .. so it was Political Game not surrender.

Kargil issue! … Do read "A Ridge Too Far" and "Coldest War" . you would have a better idea, who was the real person behind this. And find the answer why NAWAZ SHARIF went to US on immediate notice.

GHQ issue! … they could not prevent 10 terrorist, we are developing country. A developed country super power USA , did they manage to prevent 9/11 with only bunch of terrorist. Think about it.

Helicopter! … Because Pakistan's political alliance with US is to the extent that they allowed them. NATO NATO NATO NATO .. this is what poitical parties think about…. But now ARMY has seen the result and said NOT ANYMORE now.

They do speak about National Interest, cause they are protecting this country unlike our political leaders and our president.

    Peace .. waiting for reply

  14. Its bloody civilians versus rascal army generals!
    To Kiani & Pasha:
Arroj e dar say dekhain ya pas e divare zindan say
tujay ruswa sare bazaar e alam ham bhi dekhain ghay

  15. If the civilian government were doing a good job, the army and secret services wouldn't need to intervene. In this case, they simply had to.

    • Who has given them this right?

The only people who have the right to judge the government's performance are the people of Pakistan at election time, not corrupt, incompetent generals.

And by the way, who will judge these generals?

And yes, today is the 40th anniversary of the surrender of the Pakistan Army to the Indians. Happy anniversary!

  16. Kiyani sahib khuda ka khouf khao aur apni duty anjam kero. for God sake leave the politic and greed out and protect Pakistan, if you really love your country. You might be genuine leader of the army but partying with criminal govt. you are seen to be criminal. please stop playing politic and protect Pakistan and its people. Remember your predecessors, how their career ended and now they are either known as criminals, traitors or loosers. I hope you show your leadership in supporting our justice system and don't become yet another stat.

  17. Treason is clearly defined in Art. 6 as abrogation or suspension of the Constitution. This raises a very interesting situation: Who committed treason- Wast it the President who war trying to bring the Army under civilian control OR was it Kayani trying to boss it over the civilian leadership? THE MOST IMP LINE IN KAYANI'S STATEMENT IS :"THERE IS VERY LIMITED TIME LEFT". TIME FOR WHAT, GENERAL.

  18. So Zardari has done suicide bombing on Democracy which was expected from him as he is more keen to save his ass than anything in this world

  19. Now that Gen Kayani and Lt Gen Pasha have "decided" that the memo is authentic why bother the Supreme Court?

  20. i think both generals doing things on mErit and will keep the country first priority and bring the culprit to the SC and from the whole situatuion zardari and haqqani are involved

  21. The problem with this Zardari regime is that its a dictatorship in all but name. It has been of absolutely no benefit to Pakistan or it's people. They managed to get in on what still is the 'suspicious death' of the actual party leader and a whole lot of rigged votes. No wonder they are constantly plotting and looking over their shoulders.
He who lives by the sword….

  22. arif riahan,it is requested to the Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan for approval of the summary of upgradations of stenogrpahers which is lying pending in his office for few days ago,If granted approval and directed to the concerned authorities to issue order notification in this regard immediately and oblige.Thnaks.
