Husband sets wife on fire

A mother of four was burnt severely after her husband set her ablaze over domestic disputes. The parents of victim, Kiran, 37, said their daughter had various disputes with her husband, Tariq, residents of Macleod Road locality of Lahore. Tariq, after a row with Kiran, doused her with petrol and set her on fire. Kiran was shifted to the hospital where her condition was stated to be critical, as 70 percent of body was burnt. NGOs working for the rights of women and human rights organisations have demanded the concerned authorities take stern action against the accused. A case has been registered, but police have not yet arrested the accused, who has denied his in-laws accusations, saying it was an accident.
WOMAN INCINERATES SELF OVER DOMESTIC DISPUTE: A woman, who set herself ablaze over domestic issues, succumbed to her burn injuries in the hospital on Monday. The deceased was identified as Kiran Bibi, wife of Tariq of Pathi Ground. On Sunday Kiran asked Tariq to go to her brother’s engagement – but he refused. The couple exchanged harsh words, after which Kiran sprinkled kerosene oil over herself and set herself ablaze. As a result, she received serious burn injuries. She was rushed to Mayo Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday. The police have registered a case against Tariq on complaint of the deceased’s mother, Meena, and arrested Tariq.
RAPE: A man allegedly raped the wife of a vegetable vendor on gunpoint in Nawakot Police jurisdiction on Monday.
Sadaqat Ali said his wife was alone at home when the accused person, Munna Azam, barged into the house and raped her on gunpoint. Police arrested Azam and registered a case against him.
Meanwhile, unidentified persons tried to rape a girl in Mughalpura Police area and ran away when the girl screamed for help. The victim (S), from Faisalabad, said some unidentified persons had kidnapped her and brought her to Lahore and attempted to rape her. Police shifted the girl to the Child Protection Bureau.
INJURED WHILE RESISTING ROBBERY: A female British national received serious injuries when she offered resistance in a robbery bid in Iqbal Town Police limits on Monday.
Shahnaz, resident of Iqbal Town, was going somewhere when two robbers intercepted her and demanded cash and her mobile phone. She offered resistance and denied handing over money to the robbers, over which one of them hit her with the butt of his pistol and ran away after looting Rs 30,000 in cash from the lady. She received serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.
ASF arrests drugs smuggler: Airport Security Force (ASF) officials arrested a drugs smuggler, his wife and two children, and recovered 16 kg heroine from his custody on Monday.
Usman Khan, a resident of Iqbal Town, was going to Dubai on flight EK-623 when an official of ASF suspected his activities. Heroine hidden in secret compartments of his bag was discovered during scanning of his luggage. ASF officials arrested Usman, along with his wife and two children for a foiled attempt at smuggling drugs.
PRISONERS DIE: Two prisoners in Kot Lakhpat Jail died under mysterious circumstances on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Muhammad Aslam, resident of Vehari, and Javed Masih of Lahore. On the day of incident, Aslam fell unconscious all of a sudden. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The cause of death could not be determined. Aslam has been imprisoned for the last several years in a murder case.
Meanwhile, Javed Masih, who was imprisoned in a robbery case, died due to a protracted illness.
Police removed the bodies to the city morgue for autopsy.
