The Himayat-e-Islam College for Women held a special reference meeting for Dr Muhammad Allama Iqbal, where several eminent speakers, especially those affiliated with the Anjuman-e-Himayat-e-Islam (AHI), an NGO, spoke about the poet and philosopher. Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal presided over the session. The basis of the AHI was laid out by Allama Iqbal himself, said Justice Nasira. She said Iqbal had been a president of the foundation, as well as her own father Dr Ameeruddin, and now her husband, son of Allama Iqbal, Dr Javaid Iqbal, was the vice president, while she was the AHI chairperson.
“For this reason,” she said. “I feel there is a strong connection between our family, this college and the NGO since its formation.” She added that the college was trying to live out Iqbal’s aspirations to educate, and thus empower young girls and women.
