Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hasan said on Wednesday that the issue of memorandum has brought disgrace to the country, adding that it could not be closed by making former ambassador Husain Haqqani the scapegoat.
Addressing the participants of the JI central workshop at Mansoora, he said the issue was a matter of national honour and called for a high level inquiry so that the culprits can be held accountable. Munawar said that the nation will not be satisfied with Haqqani’s resignation, adding that President Asif Ali Zardari was responsible for the issue. He said the government was in fact the dictatorship of the president, with a facade of democracy.
He blamed the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leadership for prolonging the tenure of corrupt government by maintaining the role of friendly opposition. Meanwhile, JI Secretary General Liaquat Baloch on Wednesday left for Sudan on a one-week visit. He will attend the annual general conference of the National Congress of Sudan.
