It has been repeatedly claimed by some politicians that by being jailed for their corrupt practices by the government, they served the cause of democracy. The claim is preposterous. The Quaid-i-Azam never went to jail because of his spotless character but even our worthy Prime Minister claimed that he went to jail because he gave jobs to the people and would do the same again. Giving jobs simply on political concerns without observing rules and merit is downright criminal. Even PM’s son is accused of receiving a Rs 99 lac worth car by the former minister of religious affairs. Where are we headed to when even being jailed is considered a qualification that promotes the cause of democracy?
