The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday dismissed a petition against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) authorities, alleging failure in probing into allegations of kickbacks in selling the embassy land in Japan and Indonesia in 2002.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial dismissed the contempt petition, terming it premature. The court observed that the NAB chairman had been appointed recently, therefore, the petitioner should approach him in this regard.
The petition was filed by Dr Qaisar seeking contempt proceedings on failure to act on court orders in the embassy land case.
The petitioner submitted that a single bench of the LHC in April 2011 had ordered NAB to hold a probe into the allegations of kickbacks in selling embassy land in Japan and Indonesia in 2002, on a petition filed by him. He submitted that the court also ordered filing a reference, if made, to accountability court.
However, the NAB authorities failed to act on court orders despite being approached by him, the petitioner said. The LHC single bench ordered a probe into the sale of embassy land on a petition filed by Dr Qaisar while disposing it of.
The petitioner had challenged the sale of high cost embassy land in the countries allegedly on the ‘directions’ of then chief executive Pervez Musharraf, who had “shared” the kickbacks with the then ambassadors in the sale deal.
