Former US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen has confirmed receiving a memo from Mansoor Ijaz, a Pakistani businessman.
Ijaz alleged in a column in the Financial Times last month that a senior Pakistani diplomat asked for assistance in getting a memo from President Asif Ali Zardari to Admiral Mullen.
Ijaz wrote that Zardari feared a military takeover following the U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in May, and wrote to Washington to prevent an army coup.
Mullen initially said that he did not know the man who claimed to have delivered him a message from President Zardari, nor did he recall receiving any correspondence from him. However, when asked about the memo referred to in the Financial Times column, Captain John Kirby, who was Mullen’s spokesman until the admiral stepped down earlier this year, said Mullen initially had no recollection of such a memo but was later able to track it down.
“Neither the contents of the memo nor the proof of its existence altered or affected in any way the manner in which Admiral Mullen conducted himself in his relationship with General Kayani and the Pakistani government,” Kirby said. “He did not find it at all credible and took no note of it.”
All hogwash! More ammo against corrupt cabal of Zardari if you ask me. Facts are facts and that it was delivered and that with the intent of US military to conspire against Pak Military is clearly what the intention was. That's what Imran has been crying about for weeks. Pak press corps is going about it all the wrong ways possible. They are sensationalizing it when somebody needs to look at it very objectively and tell like it is. A conspiracy against a Pakistani institution of gigantic proportion by none other then involving foreign proliferation. Simple and straight forward it is a case of treason and Zardari should be tried for it.
This is simply a case of treason. Zardari should be send behind the bars.
