Towards civil disobedience

The following recent happenings in the country tend to exhibit indifference/apathy towards the well being of the hapless masses:

1. The loadshedding in the country suddenly ended, but only after the people came out on the streets, destroyed/burnt public property.

2. The Railways came to a halt to create a history. It carried out non-stop operations since the birth of Pakistan.

3. The Railways pensioners were not paid for almost two months. One old pensioner’s death while waiting for pension since over a week woke up the authorities to make arrangements for money.

4. The Prime Minister Gilani and Interior Minister Rehman Malik showed “non-seriousness” in responding to the meeting with the Baloch militants as arranged by Pakistan Peoples Party’s Senator Mir Lashkari Raisani in Quetta. Why?

The government may put forward very good excuses but one feels that there appears to be lack of good governance coupled with indifferent attitude towards the poor.

Their priorities appear to carry on till the next elections which they may be very hopeful to win. In order to achieve this goal they need to take plenty of steps which are very evident to all. This could only be possible if they start caring for the people and show “real good intentions and will” to improve their attitude towards the people.

The courts can do nothing but for providing the guidelines. The NRO Case is still with the Supreme Court of Pakistan. I hope that they start referring the major cases now to NAB as we see an upright/impartial chairman in the seat.

I am very hopeful that the things may take a better turn in the near future with the delivery of quick justice. If not, God forbid, I fear that it may result in civil disobedience.
