Why pay tribute?

This is with reference to Mohammad Khan Sial’s letter published on Sunday, in which he paid ‘rich tribute’ to Qaddafi by saying that “he tremendously helped Pakistan by providing finance in making its nuclear weaponry. It seems strange that some people are now demanding to change the name of Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore.”

Here in Pakistan, we have too many so-called intellectuals. We are very short-sighted and have short memories. Mr Sial has forgotten ‘hathhora group’ allegedly formed by Pak-Libya Holding Company, to teach a lesson to Zia on ZAB’s judicial murder, and killed hundreds of innocent and poor Pakistanis, only because Qaddafi had good relations with Mr Zulfikar Bhutto.

Whatever we have in Pakistan, dictatorship or democracy, to hang somebody or not, is none of other country’s business. As far as renaming Qaddafi Stadium is concerned, we have too many heroes in Pakistan, why can’t we change its name to any of them?
