The people were hoping that mainstream political parties PPP and PML(N) leaders must have learnt lessons from their past politicking and would divert their energy in solving the problems of the people, who have been tricked by these parties into securing rights to rule them.
People were expecting that democracy would protect their basic rights and the government elected by them would work for their welfare. The opposition were to present alternative solution of the problems and criticise the government for its anti-people policies, but it is now clear that the present lot of politicians is not in politics to serve the people or country but are only interested to enhance their personal wealth at the cost of people’s misery.
The PML(N) which is headed by the industrialists Sharif brothers and whose main supporters are traders and businessman are not prepared to further wait for the government to correct its path due to electricity and gas loadshedding, which have badly affected their business. Mian Nawaz Sharif had pledged to the people that his politics will be a politics of principles and he will not compromise at any cost on his principles and will never accept the politicians who left the party when his government was removed by General Pervez Musharraf.
He also promised to the people that he would allow the political government to complete its tenure and would not indulge in politics of confrontation and avoid providing third forces a chance to remove the civilian government.
But with his latest welcoming gestures to Musharraf’s staunch supporters, MNA Sumaira Malik, Kashmala Tariq and inviting other member of the Unification Group of PML(Q), has not only exposed his political principles but also that the present political system is not for ordinary people’s welfare. Instead it is to protect the interest of the elite class and maintain a status quo.
The other factor which is compelling the PML(N) to start a long march and street agitation is PTI’s Imran Khan who says that the leadership of both the PPP and PML(N) are corrupt and are not will to do anything for the welfare of the people.
Those who have their first loyalties with the party are also prevailing over Nawaz Sharif not to allow PPP to complete its five years terms because once the PPP completed its terms that they are likely to have next term also and with their majority in the Senate elections come next march, Asif Zardari is likely to retain the chair of President of Pakistan. Therefore, PML(N) will try using all means to create political instability to achieve its objectives.
