Information minister Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan has said that Nawaz Sharif’s idea of democracy was limited to his own rule.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, she accused the PML-N leader of trying to eke out political mileage out of floods of Sindh, and was also shedding crocodile tears, in order to hoodwink masses.
Accusing Nawaz Sharif of even recognising the parliament, she said that he was facing an acute sense of political isolation, and at the time when masses badly needed unity, he was endeavoring to divide them again.
She also berated any criticism of president, saying that character assassination of President Asif Ali Zardari was harmful for democracy, while PPPP did not want any politics of confrontation and agitation.
Referring to flood situation of Sindh, she said that there had been meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari over the issue, during which NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) had also presented its report, according to which, 14 districts of Sindh had been declared as calamity hit areas, where loans of suffering farmers had been waived.
She also said that Rs 17 billion would be distributed amongst 1.7 million flood affectees; with Rs.10, 000 worth of Watan cards among flood affectees.
Among other aid items, she cited 300,000 tents, rations for 3 million families, 7,000 mosquito nets, water purifying tablets for 200,000 persons, 35,000 plastic sheets, and 39,000 BISP (Benazir Income Support) fund cards, had been distributed amongst flood victims.
She said further that district and Provincial governments would also extend their full support in rehabilitation of flood affectees, and added that President Zardari had also ordered special efforts to pump out floodwater.
