Samar and Alam’s bodies handed over to relatives

The Race Course Woman Police handed over the bodies of the deceased Kinnaird College for Women student and her alleged lover to their families after the completion of autopsy. Samar Wasti, a KCW ICS student who was murdered on Monday by her alleged lover Shams Alam was reported to have received five bullets in different parts of her body while Alam received one bullet in his head.
Samar’s body was received by her father, brother and other relatives while Alam’s was received by the maternal uncle at about 1:30pm from the Mayo Hospital morgue. The families did not exchange any words with each other or with the media. Samar’s body was taken to Faisalabad and Alam’s to Sargodha for their funerals.
Even though two different cases of murder/attempted murder and suicide have been registered against Alam, they would be closed after the police receives the autopsy report. Meanwhile, even the bloody murder and suicide could not convince the Operations Wing of Lahore Police to appoint officials outside girls’ institutions to prevent such incidents from happening again. After Monday’s incident, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had issued orders to the police department to come up with a strategy to counter eve-teasers outside girls’ schools and colleges. DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, in his official statement after a meeting with SSPs and SPs of Lahore, had said an action plan had been devised to take strict action against wanderers involved in eve-teasing around schools and colleges and police officials in civvies would be deployed. He said eve-teasers would only be released once their parents sign stamped papers. During the same meeting Khawaja Saad Rafique and Mian Nauman had suggested that a complaint box be placed outside every institution. However, divisional SPs have so far failed to implement any of the aforementioned orders and suggestions.
