Arif Nizami has explained quite well the PML(N)’s failure in all directions and its loss of grip on country’s politics. His latest article “Sharif’s 12/12” (published on 15 October) should serve as a nice piece of advise to the PML(N) and Chief Ministe Punjab who have failed and disappointed their well-wishers. The Chief Minister’s greatest blunder has been his self-projection instead of doing some useful work.
The day of the 12th October was the darkest when Mian Nawaz Sharif was deposed because of his lack of vision and not so good advisers. Who advised him for a sit-in in front of the Parliament is again ion the wrong.
He keeps criticising dictators and professes love for democracy, but still he called for people to throw out the present rulers. In what way this is going to help in strengthening our fragile democracy.
Ever since they left the coalition (must be repenting now), they are in confrontation with the government and their popularity graph has gone down (though relatively better than all other opposition parties).
President Asif Zardari is under continuous attack by the opposition and media. Without bothering about criticism he is playing his cards safely and has focussed his eyes for the second term as anticipated by the writer.
PPP knows how to handle his critics and please coalition partners whereas Nawaz Sharif has mastered the art of annoying everybody and this gradually is heading towards his isolation.
The opposition parties are mainly banking on army and judiciary and so is the case with Mian sahib. The recent events have made it clear that both are not interested to derail the democracy and would not agree to any unconstitutional step, and would not provide crutches to anybody to come into power.
The PML(N) is well-advised to understand the ground realities and adjust in the current environment before it gets too late. In all his speeches Mian sahib talks of guard of honour to Gen Musharraf, while saying so he forgets that his party members took oath from him. Why making a fuss over a procedural issue?
One would not disagree with the writer when he says that the very businessmen, who helped GDP go up to seven percent in dictator General Musharraf era, have shown disgust to present rulers. The political parties must understand that a government is merely an extension of the previous government because they are continuing their policies.
The PML(N) has learnt no lesson as it is asking people to change the government which makes no sense as confrontation will be disastrous at this stage when the country is faced with multifarious problems.
We should have patience and wait for the next elections.
