Interior Minister Rehman Malik has been awarded a PhD degree for his remarkable efforts to bring peace in country and especially in Karachi. There are already 5300 PhD scholars in Pakistan and one more has been added in this number to take this toll to 5301. Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, who is also the Chancellor of the University of Karachi, conferred the degree on Senator Abdul Rehman Malik.
The degree has been awarded by the Syndicate of Karachi University in recognition of his “matchless services to the country in the war on terror and particularly in restoring peace to the citizens of Karachi.”
Is this a moment of rejoicing or mourning? Here are certain facts which will highlight how much peace Rehman Malik has brought in this country and especially in the City of Lights “Karachi”.
1. From 2003 – 2007 total casualties from suicide and terrorism incidents were around 6800 but ever since the PPP has come into power and Rehman Malik’s has taken charge of the interior ministry, the number of casualties has gone much higher. In 2008, 6715 people got killed, in 2009, 11,585, in 2010, 7435 and till record of February 2011, 708 people have been killed in Pakistan due to terrorism related incidents and attacks. Below are the year wise details of casualties.
2. Target killing in Karachi has worsened and hundreds of people have lost their lives. In 2008, 777 people lost their lives in Karachi, in 2009, 272, in 2010, 1339 and in 2011 till now, around 1495 people have lost their precious lives.
3. The situation in Balochistan has worsened and we might lose another part of Pakistan if proper steps are not taken.
4. US drones enter our territory and kill our civilians daily.
5. US forces set aside our sovereignty and entered in our country in May 2011 to kill Osama Bill Ladin.
Many more facts are present which clearly undermine his work and abilities. In my view, this degree has only been conferred to him for his matchless efforts of bringing MQM back in the government time and again. Whenever MQM leaves the government, it is his majesty that brings them back in the government.
This is also result of his matchless patience that he showed over the tenure of 3 years by listening to all allegations wholeheartedly but not hitting back at any of his rivals.
There are no reasons to award him a PhD degree other than those mentioned above and this is a time of shame and distress for all those scholars who spent their lives for research to get this holy degree which has been conferred on him for no reason.
