The great leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah had a dream of building a state on the principles of the Two-Nation Theory that would stand on three pillars; ‘one nation, one language, one culture’. His utmost desire was to create a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent so that they could live according to their wishes and practice their religion independently.
Ever since the first constitution was passed in 1956, two more constitutions have been added to the journals of history. Presently, we are ‘in theoretical perspective’ following the Constitution of 1973 with 18 amendments.
Pakistan is going through a rough patch. The infrastructure is in shambles. We lack competent leaders. Majority of our youth today has indulged into the sweet intoxication of social networking and other activities, totally ignoring what their own country is going through.
We are a victim of inherited political parties, for whom their self made proclamations, values and rules are more than enough to lead a nation of 180 million. We do not want more political parties; in fact, we would be more than happy and contended if the current ones adopt a right and an optimistic way to move on. But have our politicians ever thought beyond their own personal gains and advantages?
There are many issues to be taken care of beyond dirty party politics. They never care for the integrity of our land and with their current temperaments, they never will.
So, why not give a little chance to our youth, who is talented, brilliant and sensible enough to guide a nation. They have the guts and abilities to formulate policies, to stay away from hypocrisy, corruption and all other evils which lead us to astray.
The other thing which we all as a nation should keep in mind is that everyone should cast votes. Your vote has the power to change the system upside down. But try to get yourself out of the system in which votes can be bought off easily. This is the worst part of any electoral process and which is unfortunately prevalent very much in our country, especially in the days of campaigning.
And one thing which all should remember is that it is the process after the election that is important. We all should be aware of what is going on around us, volunteer for anything one is good at, so that the process to change the system can be initiated from the grass root level. Only then can we look forward to a nation which Jinnah had dreamt of.
