Democratic system is based on politics which is defined as the art of the possible. We have observed that since the birth of Pakistan in 1947 there have been 64 years of our history divided equally between democracy and army rule. The net result has been that the democratic governments have largely failed to complete their term due to corruption or bad governance while the army, though not free of faults, has delivered two mega dams of Tarbela and Mangla which have served us well for over three decades.
Add to this the formation of many universities including professional ones that were a hallmark of educational stimulus during the army rule. Comparing the above period with democratic tenures we have observed cronyism at its highest and mega scams. The lack of power due to not building any mega dams has unleashed public anger in the wake of massive energy shortages. It looks like democratic path is mission impossible for us.
