Dysfunctional police

It is not surprising to see the Rangers patrolling the streets of Karachi and doing a job which should have been the responsibility of police.

According to some estimates, only 29,000 police personnel are available, for a population of more than 15 million. Added to this the corruption, political interference, nepotism and lack of resources have made the entire police force in Karachi dysfunctional. As a concerned citizen, I do not object calling in the Rangers to assist the police, but priority should be given to reforming the police force. As ultimately, it is the police that has the primary responsibility to maintain law and order.
