The Sindh Education Department has recently given at least five state-run colleges in Naushero Feroz, Jacobabad, Dadu, Khairpur to the IBA, Sukkur, to run them in a better way. In the last week of August, 10 high schools of Khairpur Mir’s were handed over to the IBA, Sukkur.
I am afraid that our system is disappointing for the youth of Sindh. Instead of improving the standard of education, the chief minister is interested in introducing the Chinese language from 2013. This is an illogical idea. When the Sindh government has failed to provide good English language teachers in schools, then how many years will the government need to provide good Chinese language teachers? This will be a self-destructive exercise.
In other provinces, particularly in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the respective chief ministers make plans and strategies to improve the quality and standard of education. They are focusing on opening the public sector institutes to facilitate the people of their provinces. On the contrary, the chief minister of Sindh makes plan about how to teach Chinese in Sindh.
From call centres to telecommuters, all jobs are available for those who are fluent in English. When the Chinese are learning English for better opportunities why should not we? If anybody is interested in learning Chinese after intermediate, he may learn from any Chinese language centre according to the needs.
I request the chief minister to review the decision in the best interest of Sindh and plan to strengthen the capacity of existing educational institutions. This will be a great service to the youth of Sindh if he can help make Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur a model institution which exists in his own constituency.
