Advanced ceramics industry can help boost national economy

The lack of institutions with latest facilities for the production of advanced ceramics is a set back to the country’s already fragile economy and industry.
State Minister for Professional and Technical Training Sardar Shahjehan Yousaf said this on Wednesday while speaking at a one day workshop on “Advanced Ceramics”, organized. Prominent scientists, engineers and researchers participated in the workshop which aimed at highlighting the importance of a thriving ceramic industry in the country. Shahjehan Yousaf highlighted the scope of modern technology which had led to a significant increase in the range and depth of research and development in the industrially advanced world.
He said, “If we look around, we see ceramics everywhere. A common man can perceive a world made of ceramics because of its wide range from pottery to most advanced tiles being used in space shuttles.” He regretted the fact that there was no established institution catering the technical needs of ceramics industry of the country. Briefing about the workshop the secretary of the workshop, Dr Shaheed, emphasised the increasing usage of ceramics all over the world.
He informed the audience that had held successful workshops on Smart Materials, Magnetic Materials and Microscopy. He said those workshops provided a common platform to the participants from abroad and within the country to exchange information, share their ideas and experiences about the materials being used across the globe.
