An additional district and sessions court ordered the police on Friday to lodge a case against senior officials of Pakistan Rangers Sindh in an illegal detention case.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Chaudhry Waseem Iqbal ordered the Shah Faisal Colony SHO to lodge an FIR against Brigadier Javed, Colonel Raja Sabir, Inspector Azhar, sub-inspectors Khalid and Shabbir and some other Rangers personnel in case a cognisable offence was made.
The applicant, Zeeshan, had filed an application under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code in which he submitted that he was arrested by Rangers along with two relatives and some neighbours on September 10 and they were confined at Rangers Wing 43 at Jamia Millia in Malir. The Rangers also did not allow a judicial magistrate, who conducted a raid on a court order for their recovery, to enter the Rangers’ office at Jamia Millia.
The applicant accused the Rangers of robbing his house and torturing him and his family. He maintained that he approached the police concerned but they refused to register his case. He pleaded the court to direct the police to register a case against the respondents Rangers personnel. After hearing both sides, the court directed the Shah Faisal Colony SHO to record the statement of the applicant under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code and lodge a criminal case accordingly.
