The dengue fever has overtaken Punjab truly but the dengue scare is much more pervasive and problematic than the fever itself. In their state of panic, people keep forgetting that the disease is curable. Also, in their inability to grasp the situation, many have inexorably blamed the government. While it is not free of blame entirely, the amount of flak it is facing is in now way proportional to its performance.
The people only expect the government to take steps but are not even willing to the basic minimum themselves. This includes cleaning up pools of stagnant water, keeping their surroundings clean, using mosquito repellents and nets etc. When we won’t help ourselves, the government can’t do anything either.
It is indeed the duty of the government to provide health services and take preventive measures but it is also the duty of the people to assist the government in whatever way they can. These include adopting clean and green practices that eliminate such diseases.
