EU assistance to be utilised for vocational education

The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) plans to utilise technical assistance of Euro 42.4 million granted by European Union for upgrading technical and vocational education at 1,000 institutes across the country. This decision was made at the board meeting of NAVTTC chaired by it Chairman Muhammad Mumtaz Akhtar Kahloon on Wednesday.
The meeting was informed that NAVTTC has signed an agreement with the German Development Agency (GIZ) for Technical Assistance Programme of Euro 42.4 million. EU, Netherlands and Germany have agreed to contribute grants of 25.4, 15 and 2 million Euros respectively. The grant would be used on improving quality standards and 1,000 TVET institutes will be accredited. New competency standards and curricula will be developed and adopted for imparting trainings based on these standards. 100 Master Trainers in various disciplines will be trained who will then impart training to almost 10,000 teachers with special focus on women.
The chairman stressed the need to make the organizational structure more efficient to be able to conceive and implement the long term as well as short term plans efficiently and effectively. The Board has approved restructuring of the NAVTTC on the lines of a corporate body. Accordingly service and recruitment rules were revised and approved by the Board. The Board has also approved the right-sizing of strength of officers and staff of NAVTTC, that will also result in savings of public money of Rs119.5 million per annum.
