The 28-floor shopping centre, The Mall, is set to become functional by the end of this year and become Pakistan’s tallest skyscraper in Karachi. With 393 feet in height and an investment of $81.3 million (around Rs 7 billion), the high-rise project is set to break the record of being the tallest building in the country. The record is currently held by a private bank’s 24-floor building with a height of 370 feet, situated on the II Chundrigar Road.
The Mall is being constructed and furnished with the standards of the international shopping centres and luxury hotels. The shopping centre would house outlets of international brands, lavish food courts, corporate offices and a business club. The building was initially designed to be a chain hotel, but due to the law and order situation, the plan was written off. However, having full faith in the country’s progress, the local consortium continued with the project with its own financial resources.
The management said the project is being pursued to provide the citizens of Karachi with a world-class shopping experience with corporate offices showcasing their products in the country’s tallest and most modern building. The building is being constructed with special material as per the Karachi Building Control Authority’s standard requirement, which would provide the high-rise the ability to bear earthquake shocks without damage.
