British Boxer Amir Khan has offered to provide training to a boxing team of commandos of Special Security Unit Sindh Police. He visited headquarters of SSU on Thursday.
Maqsood Ahmed, Commandant SSU, briefed the international celebrity about the functions and responsibilities of the special security unit.
The SSU commandant offered the British boxer maximum support and cooperation for his efforts to promote amateur boxing in the country as well as in setting up an academy in Karachi.
The commandant informed that the SSU is Pakistan’s first and only ISO certified counter-terrorism organisation. The country’s only special weapons and tactics (SWAT) force was also part of the SSU which is ready round the clock to meet any challenges, he added.
The 2004 Athens Olympics silver medalist informed that he had planned to establish a boxing academy in Karachi to promote amateur boxing and was also considering to bring coaches from Britain and other places to train boxers.
Maqsood Ahmed appreciated the efforts of the British boxer Amir Khan for reviving boxing in the country and said there was immense talent in Pakistan but there was a need to provide opportunity to youngsters for playing their international role in the field of boxing.
Amir Khan expressed his deep appreciation for the officers and staff of the SSU and its state of preparedness and especially thanked the SSU for making his presence secure.
