Dengue claims 7 more lives

The dengue virus caused seven more deaths in Lahore on Tuesday, taking the total number of people dying due to the virus in the provincial capital to 65. However, the Punjab Health Department was still in a state of denial, saying 19 people had died due to the deadly virus.
Unofficial sources claimed that two dengue patients had passed away in Mayo Hospital and one each in Ittefaq and Jinnah hospitals. On the other hand, the number of patients infected with dengue was on the rise with 1,110 new cases being reported in the province on Tuesday. Of the 1,110 cases, 974 were reported in Lahore alone. The Sri Lankan team visited the Children’s Hospital where it trained doctors on how to treat children suffering from dengue. Meanwhile, 100 foggers from Germany reached Lahore on Tuesday to assist the fogging campaign against dengue vector mosquitoes.
Dengue campaign: Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif told a meeting that the scourge of dengue virus will be controlled through collective efforts and coordinated strategy. Shahbaz said the government was moving in the right direction for eliminating dengue virus and short and long-term polices were being evolved, adding that besides establishment of a special taskforce against dengue, a research cell had also been set up on permanent basis under his direct supervision while a team of master trainers was also being prepared with the consultation of Sri Lankan experts.
