Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar met her Iranian counterpart Mr. Ali Akbar Salehi, on her arrival in Tehran. She is accompanying Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on his visit to Iran.
Khar apprised her counterpart of the magnitude of the devastation caused by monsoon rains in southern Pakistan, and thanked him for the immediate response.
Salehi said that in solidarity with the Pakistani people and as an urgent response to the appeal for assistance by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minster Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, the Iranian government was sending to Pakistan two plane loads of relief goods especially tents today (Monday).
The two ministers, as a follow up to their recent meeting in Islamabad, held substantive discussions on bilateral issues and measures to strengthen bilateral economic ties. They also discussed the global and regional situation with particular focus on peace and stability in Afghanistan.
