Ever since the establishment of Pakistan, politicians, religious leaders, students, teachers, clerks, trade unionist, traders, transporters, bank employees, in fact anybody and everybody has formed the pernicious habit to bring out processions and give calls for strikes on the slightest pretext. These processions and strikes serve no good purpose. Only the ego of the persons at the head of these activities is satisfied. They rather cause a lot of harm to the national economy and unity.
A nationwide one day strike becomes responsible for the loss of millions of man hours because work in factories, mills, sea ports, air ports, railways, warehouses, shops, show rooms, offices, educational institutions, and many other places of work comes to a standstill and the economy of the country receives a severe jolt. Patients die in hospitals. Vendors, daily wage earners and hawkers lose their daily earnings and their dependents go hungry.
The contact with the outside world is broken and exports suffer. Those who refuse to cooperate in these unhealthy activities are beaten and their properties are damaged. The precisionists indulge in acts of vandalism. They throw stones at busses and cars, break windowpanes, explode crackers, burn old tyres (thus pollute air), and the unscrupulous among them find ample opportunities of picking pockets, snatching purses and stealing goods of others. Can’t we find out other means of giving vent to our grievances and seeking their remedies?
