While Zulfiqar Mirza’s allegations with documentary evidence points to serious charges such as murder, arson, extortion and even anti-state activities (espionage to foreign countries by their coalition partner MQM), there are questions that need be asked. He was part of this government, which knowingly kept mum in spite of having knowledge that such nefarious acts were being done, which has led to loss of thousands of lives and that threaten our vital national security concerns even now.
The gentleman also needs to elaborate how he has in the last 20 years acquired majority shares of two sugar mills and added hundreds of acres of agricultural and prime real estate to his assets, in addition to his foreign assets. Assets acquired through illegal channels, such as through patronage by ruling political parties by abusing their powers of discretion, is outright corruption, tantamount to robbing the state and poor taxpayers.
Zulfiqar Mirza should also explain why he did not take action against known target killers. He was minister for interior under whose watch thousands of containers loaded with prohibited weapons went missing in Karachi and some parts of Sindh. Moreover, his benefactor Asif Zardari is responsible for appointing Rahman Malik whose acts are responsible for all these heinous crimes.
