Whither justice?

This is with reference to the press conference of Zulifqar Mirza, where he levelled serious allegations against political parties and government officials. It’s unfortunate that the country is being destabilised, plundered and looted with both hands but no one is ready to take action against anyone.

The killings in Karachi, the sugar cartelisation, wheat scandal, Steel Mills, PIA, Railways, WAPDA, the KESC fiasco, gas corruption or mismanagement are a few examples but political stakeholders are keener to shower blessings and protect their corrupt cronies. The state-run institutions are being destroyed one after the other; law and order has deteriorated to the extent that law enforcement agencies, having budget of billions of rupees, are no more effective. Pakistan has climbed up the most corrupt nation’s index, industries have shut down, and there is no electricity, no gas and no governance. People are committing suicides, selling their kids but all is rejected by calling it conspiracy against democratic rule. This is the reason that people are demanding army action in Karachi but solution lies in strengthening the state run institutions and political will to enforce peace. If they can’t name and punish the culprits, then who will do it? The patience of people is running out and the principle of covering each others’ back should finish.

It’s good that Sarfraz from Karachi Rangers has been convicted quickly but why Qadri, the killer of Salmaan Taseer and those involved in Sialkot killings have not been brought to justice till now? The terrorists are being released due to poor investigation and very few terrorists have been convicted.

Similarly, for Karachi killings, from PM to the Interior Minister say “everyone knows who are involved” yet no action is taken. If a few people were punished; the situation would have been different. Take the example of England, they stabilised the situation within five days. Iran hanged the terrorists who carried out bombing in a mosque and same is the case of China. The way forward is to punish the culprits immediately. The special law and courts to deal with these terrorists, militants, killers, corrupt elements and their protectors are required to be set up immediately.

It’s very unfortunate that our President knew who murdered Mohtarama but spent millions of dollars of government exchequer for nothing. Our PM knows about Karachi killers but will not reveal it and our interior minister knows who are supporting the extremists but remains mum. So whom are they supporting? I think the fire of vengeance is in Karachi today but it will soon spread to other parts, if extraordinary measures are not taken.
